Newbie Question

Have a 2000 2500 SLT Laramie with a 4-10 rear. Have added a Banks Brake and their monster exhaust. Now for my problem, my tack stops working intermitently with the check engine light. Checled code via ignition switch and it displayed "P1693". Took the truck to a local parts store and they indicated that I needed a "crank shaft position sensor". What does the code mean and do I really need a crank sensor? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks rog

It's very likely to be the crank sensor.

Some years have a cam sensor that's used for tach signal. I think yours uses crank sensor-- it should fix it.
