the hits just keep coming!

Seems like everytime I finally get the money together to get a performance module, something else on my truck takes a dump! Was on my way to watch the truck pulls saturday night, and while pulling a fairly steep hill in 6th gear, somewhere between 1500and2000rpms, I got the dreaded dead pedal. It only lasted a second or 2 and the truck has run fine ever since. I have noticed a dead spot in the powerband from about 1900-2200rpms and a "surge" while cruising at around 60mph, with or without the cuise on. I can't feel the surge, but I can hear it. Anyways, I was hoping maybe it was just the apps, but I got a chance to finally check for codes today, and it was a po216. I just installed a FASS 150gph fuelsystem (unit with filters) a little over a weekago, so the lift pump has been taken care of. Never had a dead pedal before that. I also installed a Vulcan DrawStraw inplace of the factory fuel pick up. I know some might say that since I was going up a hill, it might have been sucking air, but I had 3/4 of a tank and I have run it down below 1/8 of a tank, going up hill, and it still picked up fuel fine. Unfortunately, i don't have a fuel press. gauge to make sure the FASS is working like it should, I was waiting for Quads new race box to come out and was gonna get it with the Commander and use that to monitor my fuel press. Anyways, what would you guys do, just run it, or should I put a new inj.pump on? I'd really hate to have this thing leave me stranded somewhere. Also, my truck is an H.O., and I wanna put a S.O. pump on it to help support future performance mods. MidwestFuelInjection was recommended to me if thats the route I wanna go. Anyone else have a recommendation?

If you got the 0216, you might as well go ahead and replace it. According to some on here, it will continue to run for awhile, but why take a chance. If you have the $$$ to do it, go ahead and get it over with.

Welcome to the dead VP club! Mine did the same thing about 3 months ago and I decided Im goin to drive it till it goes. I figured Im goin to have over a 1000 bucks into it even doing it myself, I just as well get all I can out of it. Midwest Fuel Injection was recommended to me also. They wont charge a core charge but to be able to do that you will have to purchase it on line with your credit card. I think they are good people to work with. Industial Injection is another that is very good. If you want to go wild you can get the Monster pumps from Farmboy Diesel. Im gon to stick with another SO. Easier to build on.

Kill two birds with one stone...HRVP, problem solved. You have the HO so it will help down the road if you decide to modify further.

thats the problem, I have the money to do it, but my turbo is also on its way out and I don't have money to do both, unless I rebuild the turbo myself. And then that also means I'm not getting the new Quad box that I wanted, thus, I still wont have anything to monitor my fuel press., and thats really been bugging me.

I don't know, I've heard of some people that likethe HRVP's, and others that havn't had much success with them and say they're not worth it. I'd go with one of those monster pumps, but no one has been able to prove they offer a large performance gain, or that they're durable. Besides, I don't have a set of gauges yet.

Well I guess it depends on where you want to take the truck power wise. I know i hit the wall just before 500hp. If you think you going to want to go past that, this would be a good excuse to get it out of the way. Ive found its alot more fun to dump money when you can look at it as an upgrade...not maintenance.

I think i lucked out with my HR (idle) and have no complaints. I would at least look into doing a SO pump so you can get some more fuel up top (should actually save you some money). As for the guages...that should be more important than putting fuel in the tank.

well, thats why I was thinking of just going with a SO pump cause I'd like to wind up somewhere between 500 and 550hp someday. I woulda got gauges by now, but I'm still stock, and I didn't wanna go install gauges if I was gonna eventually install a fueling box that came with a monitor. I was gonna buy an edge juice w/attitude, but then I heard about Quad's new race box coming out, and wanted to wait on that.

Why don't you just get a cheap mechanical gage at AutoZone and a plastic hose and some fittings and just lay it on the dash .?? Better than nothing. Can't cost 25 bucks.

well, I've decided I'm just gonna do the pump and hopefully have enough left over that I can do gauges too, at the least a fp gauge. Talked to a guy at our pump shop next door to work, and he said he thought you could put an HO pump on a SO engine, but not the other way around. I'm pretty sure hes wrong (hes more of a 12v guy anyways) They don't actually rebuild them there, they send them out, but he quoted me $975 at my cost. But I just wanted to double check that the SO pump will work on my HO engine and that its definately the SO that pushes more fuel? Also, can anyone tell me if the HRVP's are really worth it? I'm looking to end up around 500-550hp eventually, using 150hp stix, silver62turbo, and Quads new race box (if this is all doable) and wasn't sure if the HRVP would really be necessary anyways.

Member, bnold, is one that I know of that went with the SO on his HO truck. I think there have been a few threads that say you can put the SO on the HO truck but not the other way around.

Check his sig for mods and what it took to get him to the 550 range.

I was pretty sure the SO would work on my HO, but I just wanted to be absolutely sure. Does anyone have the part numbers for both pumps, just so I can make sure I'm getting the right one. Also, I'm still open to a HRVP, I just wanna hear from some other people that have them or had experience with them...are they worth it?

The HRVP gave the truck a good kick in the **** power wise, but in all honesty, if i had it to do over again I would have gone with the SO pump and saved the money for something else. From my understanding the HR fuels more down low due to the added timing, but flows about the same up top as the SO...someone correct me if im wrong.

is $975 a decent price for a SO pump? I think I'm gonna tell him to get me one in tomorrow. He talked to someone at the shop that rebuilds them for him, and they said they would take my HO pump as a core, so I'm alright there. Again, anyone know what the up to date part #'s are for both pumps, just so I can make sure hes ordering me what i want?
