I am about to buy my first diesel and need advise. I am looking at a 00' 2500 quad, 4x4, 5spd with 125,xxx on her. Has a bad oil leak but could not tell from where. Small tear in the drivers seat and small crack in the windshield, everything else is good. He is asking 1000 over blue book and is firm, but 5spds are so hard to find. Is this a good deal? lift pumps have been replaced, trany has been worked on.
thanks

Let me be the 1st to say "WELCOME!" You will find more info here then anywhere else! If he is asking $1000 above blue book I would keep looking. Does he have maintenance record or receipts for any of the repairs? One thing you want to look out for is the "53" engine block. Under the oil filter or Vp44 (injection pump drivers side) there will be a number cast into the block. Has the truck been modified, injectors, gauges, fuel box etc.... Things to keep in mind. Hope this helps.

Try to find out where the oil is coming from.
2000 is kinda late for the KDP, but not totally unheard of.
You can't do a search for KDP, but if you search for Killer Dowell Pin, it'll point you in the right direction.

you can go to your local dodge dealer, give them the vin # of the truck, and they can look up exactly what options it came with, including gear ratio's. Mines an 02 and has a sticker on the inside of the glove box with an option sheet too. I know the older ones used to have a sticker on the underside of the hood, not sure when they stopped that though. I know I've seen quite a few 5.9's with the oil pan leaking. The rear main seals aren't known to leak to often. Not sure about the front mains. It might just be that the owner never cleaned out the "puke bottle" on the end of the breather tube and thats where the oil is coming from. I've seen them missing on quite a few of them too. I thought my oil pan was leaking when I bought the truck under warranty, and had the dealer check it out. They retorqued all the pan bolts and turns out it was probably just oil blowing back from the breather tube. havn't had a problem yet. I'd try retorqing the bolts first, doing a oil pan gasket on these is a major pain in the ****. And unless he has reciepts to prove that its had a new lift pump put in and tranny work done (I would think hes talking about the 5th gear nut problem), I'd still plan on saving money up to take care of those issues. All in all, I'd say hes asking to much for it, however, I must admit that in my area, trying to find a 2nd gen. cummins with stick , at blue book value is tuff. I think if your patient and keep looking, you can find something better.
