New Vp44 Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi my first post here, I'm curious how bad did it run? as I just bought an 01 2500 last week and after reading on here for a week I'm not sure if my tranny is crap or the engine does not have enough power. Its pretty dead off the line, once the rpms get up its OK, (I have a 1995 6.5 Chev, that will easily out accelerate my new truck) one thing is sure you cant jump out into traffic, without getting hit, what would be a "normal/stock" zero to sixty time?
I did do the front band adjustment and I suspect with 290,000Kms on the clock it was NEVER done, I'm gonna drop the pan and do the rear later. I must say the shifting has improved dramitically, as it seems not to flair, and it "seems" like it is locked to the engine, instead of feeling sloppy. the best way to explain the way the truck puts power to the ground is it feels like a rubber band , you have to wind it up before you let it go, not a positive feel between my foot and what happens to the truck when you step on it.
So what are the symptoms of a poor/bad VP? mine starts, fine has no "flat" spots, Key on key off X3 produces no codes, and my Snap on scanner does not reveal anything.
I have not yet tested LP pressure(on my to do list) I did replace both air/ fuel filters
BTW there is a ton of info on this site, and its has taken me a week to sift thru it and a lot of it is rather confusing. I was refered here from a member over on the Diesel Place web site (GM), many thanks to GMCTD for that.
Thanks for bearing with me, I appoliogise if I'm hi-jacking your thread .
Thanks
Nick

Do a search on here for bad VP. LOTS and LOTS of information on signs and symptoms and what not. Some are hard to start when warm, some smoke white, some have a miss, some just up and die, others like mine just gradually lose power over time. There's a bunch of symptoms and every truck is different.
Stock 5.9 should all around be better power than a 6.5.
Something is wrong!
Have to start doing some checks. LIke code's and fuel pressure, boost pressure, exhaust pressure. Can't begin to say all what chould be wrong.

I took the 6.5 for a spin, yep its true as bad a rep as the 6.5 gets it will leave my new truck in a cloud of smoke and a screech of tires off the line, (to be fair it has a fresh eng/3inch straight exh, "F" prom, gutted intake, new injectors, mechanical wastegate and a host of other "improvements").
I finally got the tranny adjusted, and filled full of Amsoil, I really doubt it had ever been adjusted, shift quality is much much nicer, I'll get a FP gauge on it hopefully tomorrow, I use the truck for in-town deliverys, so it sees 8hrs/200Kms of driving 5 days aweek. (same as the Chev did). I noticed when the engine is in neutral if you stab the throttle the engine does rev up but I dont hear the "rattle" /rap that is so noticable on a 12V,standard. I test drove a 24v (standard) the other day, prior to buying this truck and it had the "rap/rattle" when you tapped the pedal. My question is " does the 24V act like a 6.5 when it has little to no LP pressure?" and if I test the LP and it has low pressure can I expect performance to return? or is the VP done for?
Other things I noticed (if this helps)
1. from a dead stop, WOT takes about 3sec for the truck to start moving with any effort
2. watching the exhaust at WOT very little to no black smoke.
3. turbo is working as it is quite loud and turbo bark is heard when on and off the throttle quickly.
4. Truck starts/idles with NO issues
5. Truck has 285-75-16 on it according to the door post this is 2 sizes over stock, my GPS shows 5% faster speed than the speedo shows, I suspect this would rob a little power
I'm saving up for a VP as I have a gut feeling I'm gonna need it
Are the Blue chip VP's worth the money and has anyone had one shipped to Canada (customs issues/extra costs?)

Ok I hooked up a temp FP gauge and at Idle approx 14psi, at WOT it will edventually drop to 5.5psi, on average it runs around 8psi, this is measured pre-filter, just after the LP.
Should I hear the engine "rattle" when I step on the throttle? in gear? as it is now with the windows up you cant tell there is a diesel under the hood, its pretty quiet
I'm going out now to do the APP re-set
any input would be welcomed
