New to Dodge
Hello all. I am Jake. I just bought a 99 dodge ext cab 4x4 cummins 5 speed. I sold my 94 f250 7.3 idi. I am a little sad to see it go. I did all the work on it my self.
I plan on adding accessories in the near future:
285/75/16 cooper tires
eagle alloys 16x8
two pillar pod with pyro and turbo gauges
tinted windows
that should be a good start.
Is there anything about these trucks I should know about? I plan to change the oil in the near future and check all the oils. Should i run an additive?
Look forward to working with you all.
Thanks
Jake

First thing I'd do is make that 2 pillar pod a 3 pillar pod and add a fuel pressure guage.
Lift pumps in 2nd gen 24 valve trucks are known to fail and fail often,
when they do they significantly reduce the life of the VP44 injection pump. ($1500 give or take)
Especially with the "iffy" injection pump found on the 98.5's and 99's.
Additives IMHO are a good thing.
Added lubricity will help the injection pump live a longer and happier life.
Much more will be added by other members I'm sure

Welcome Jake !!! Tons of great info here and even some so-so info.
Without a doubt the two most important issues for you is a fuel pressure guage to monitor lift pump pressures and to secure the Killer Dowel Pin (KDP). There is tons of info on both the KDP and lift pumps if you do a search.

Ok, fuel pressure guage...ok. What kind of pressure do these turbos put out? (need to know for the guage) Should I go with a pre turbo pryo or a post turbo? I had a pre turbo on my ford. Does anyone know of a cheap place to buy these guages and pillar? What gauges do you all recommend? Isspro or DI/P. Also do they make a pillar to match your interior color or are they all black....and if they are black.....where do you go to get paint. I have been searching on the internet.....just looking for some advice. THANKS!!!!!!!

Talk to Rod at Wildcat Diesel and he'll set you up. Really nice guy and great to work with.

Boost 30 psi if you plan to stay mild
Fuel Pressure 30 psi
Pyro go pre-turbo more accurate.
You can get the paint from your local Mopar dealer.
Isspro has great gauges that look like the OEM cluster. Make sure to get the red pointer and black face for your gauges. I wasn't impressed with the Dipricol gauges my brother has but that's my preference.

My 99 with an Edge Comp box (Not Pierced) puts out 30 PSI of boost, You are better off with a Pre-Turbo Pyro, just be careful and drill and tap the manifold slowly with a heavy grease on the bit and tap to collect most of the shavings, and weed around with a magnet to get whatever else you can out. I am running autometer Z series gauges that match the factory gauges pretty well. I am running a DiPricol Fuel Pressure auge, but have recently had a problem with the Isolator, If I were to do it over I would run Autometer all around and run Steel braided hose directly to the gauge in the cab. Try Summit or any of the other vendors for prices. The Pillars are available from Autometer, in BLACK, just go to your local 5 star and you can order a small spraycan of interior paint that covers very nicely and has a great finish when done for 6-10.00.
Oh and BTW welcome aboard "CheeseHead" Sorry I had to

Stock turbos will max out at 35psi,
but the stock wastegate is set for around 20ish.
Once you go with a bigger aftermarket turbo, the next step would be a 60psi guage.
I've seen 50psi guages, but I think they were special order.
Pre turbo is the most popular, you want to know the temperature as close to the cylinders as possible, and not have to remember to subtract 300 degrees, or whatever it is post turbo.
We have many fine advertisers that sell the guages,
The Advertisers rotate through on the banners above the forums,
or can be located in the Links section.
Autometer, Isspro and DiProcol are the favorites. (in no particular order)
(I just got mine from WildcatDiesel recently, Isspro)
Most of the pillars come in basic black, interior paint can be had at the Dodge parts counter,
or any major paint distributor.
They just need the interior paint code, can't remember where it is located though(?).
The place that installed mine had the paint handy and sprayed mine before installing it.
