Need Help!!..Heres the Story...

I am the owner of a 01 CTD HO/ 6 Spd. I am currently trying to trade it for a 02 with an automatic. Well, my salesman lives in the same city as me, and we decided to trade trucks last night so he can take mine to the dealership (which is about 25-30 min away) to save me the trouble, so it can be appraised.
Well, this morning he called me saying that it cuts out real bad at 70mph or above (he was driving it in to the dealership) and I told him that I have had no probs before, so we were both confused on what was going on.
He called about 5 min later. Apparantly the truck just died and he couldnt get it started again, so he called the dealership to come get him and the truck, so after they got it in and looked at it, he called me and told me that they are about 90% sure that the injection pump went out, but they will look into it further and call me tomorrow.
Is there anything else it could be? And if it is the vp44, is there some place that sells them for cheap, like used. Talk about bad timing. It would have been better if it went out AFTER I traded. Please help.. Need suggestions.
THANKS

Welcome aboard man,
Any chance the IP is still under warranty?

Not a clue where to get the cheapest one though. Member Shovelhead recently (within a few months) replaced his. Search for his posts on the replacement and you may find where to get one. Dying IP's is common, someone will chime in soon I'm sure and tell you where they got a good deal.

Good luck,
~Rob

Your screwed.

Bad timing is right! There is no such thing as cheap when it comes to VP44's, unless you are brave enough to buy one on Ebay.......

While your at it, you might want to have them check out the fuel pressure on the 02 too. It couldn't get much worse if you ended up with a dead IP on your new (to you) truck a month down the road.

unfortunatly it has 120k miles on it, so its not under warranty.
One thing I am going to do is if all this ends up in good standing with trading for the 02, im going to take it (the 02) in before warranty expires, and im going to make them replace those fuel pumps, I dont care if I have to take it in every day until they do. That should get me worry free for a while

just get a pusher pump on the 02. it will void the warranty, but if the IP checks out ok, you probably won't have a problem. The cheapest I've seen the Injection pumps is for $1000. Good luck getting anything cheaper than that.
Hope it works out for ya,
Ian

Get a new pump and put it on the 02 and take that one and put it on the 01 if you can. You get your new to you truck with a new pump. (If you can even do that).

good thought but the 01 6 speed is a HO and the 02 auto would be a SO and the pumps are different
