heres my symptoms....how sick am i?

my truck definately has a problem, i thought maybe someone could give me a better idea on the solution. it seems to be very similiar to gamiller's problem.
i have noticed several times that my truck idles "rough" after being drivin somewhat hard, (80 mph with bout 5k lbs towed). it seems to vibrate in the cab and sounds sorta "shaky" rpms tend to jump a little bit.
it also has a definate "miss" when i turn the tst pm2 (90 more hp, spliced into vp44 wire) on and hammer down to pass a car. i normally try to keep the box turned off as it seems to ride rough lately.
runs fine with comp switch turned off.....just not as much power of course.
i read the codes a min ago, got a "p1693"-"DTC detected in ECM or PCM."

it makes me wonder about the vp44, however i would think that i would notice something when driving in "stock" mode. i have also wondered if i have a faulty tst computer, and it makes my engine do funny things, another thing that has entered my head is that i may have bad injectors? they are stock, 110K miles on the truck.

oh yea.... and another story from bout a year ago......
im in a hurry all afternoon to get to different businesses in diff towns before 5 and then to a meeting after that. goin real hard on the truck, no load on back, sometimes 90mph, but im watchin the egt guage to stay safe. after bout 45 min trip between towns, im slowin down comin into town. i hear this really loud explosion. (best way i can describe it) POP!..............i pull over leave truck idling.......get out to look for blowout tire or truck in flames, or bullet hole in the fender.....etc. i find nothing. truck sounds perfectly fine, smells fine, looks fine.temps all look good.

my buddy thought it might be an injector go out, to this day have not done nething bout it.

Check the pump wire connection. I had the same problems. I was told to check the pump wire so I did and put a new scotchlock on it. Well the same problem was there after the redo, so I tore the scotch lock off, cut the wire, used a butt connector and some dialectric grease. Havn't had a problem since. I thought for sure the vp 44 bit the dust.

Hope your troubles are an ez fix like mine were. Mooseman

I was having the same problem with my TST. It's the pump wire connection. If your using a scotch lock, get rid of it. They suck and cause more problems then they do good. I suggest soldering it, buying the TST grabber, or like me get a pump plate cover. If this doesn’t work disconnect the map sensor and spray both ends with some WD40. Some of the older connectors were junk and let dust and moisture in. I'm willing to bet its the VP connection though.

I had the problem with the map sensor. WD did it for me then I could hit a bump and my remote would go off then come back. I soldered the wire no more problem. I've had this Power Max on my truck for 5 years and 80000 miles and that is the only problems I've had with it well except for 2 vp44's and 3 lift pumps.

Yes. If you dont remore the battery cable before messing with the VP connection you will through a code. Trust me on this, I did it. Before I figured out what was going on I was messing with every **** connection. Hope you get it fixed. It's fun driving around with the box on. I dont ever shut mine off.

Guys, you can send your box back to TST and they will reflash it with the program for PM 3. I ordered the remote at the same time it cost $100 but the reflash was free. I think if you have a newer PM 2 all you need is the remote to make it a PM3.

Barry, I called TST the other day and they told me as long as the box has the phone plug all you have to do is buy the remoet to make it a PM3. I wanted to get my box upgraded to the comp but they said they're having problems with the HOs and the comp. I also found out that even with the PM3 an HO engine will only get 90 RWHP but will still get the 360 TQ.

thats some good info to know bout the upgrade........i noticed the plug in the back of my box and wonderd what it was for. (looks sorta like the female end of a phone cord)........ but how can i tell about the HO motor. i have been confused for a long time about when cummins produced a high output engine, and when they produced a standard.
in my state of confusion right now......im thinkin that my truck is a standard output engine because that is the only thing they made in 2000?...............and that the remote is all i need to acquire 360 ftlbs of tq?
sorry im so lost....lol.

thanks guys

95 Ram, they said something about mine being so old they had to reflash. They had me send the numbers off of the back of it. Still a good deal.

Believe you are right...no HO in 2000. Take your VIN # to a dealer and ask for a "Build Sheet" it will tell you for sure, and all else you have (had from Factory).
