He'll be fine. Trick is, now that he will have the improved VP, he can expect many years of service from his CTD.

(Get a fuel pressure gauge in the cab).

Let us know how it works out.

Whoa.

You'll have that when they charge list for the VP and probably about $600 in labor.

Sucks.

Would that be the 8 yr./136K warranty you speak of?

I thought that was an urban myth. I have yet to hear of a first hand story on that, just what has been reported over on another forum. That guy (knew someone) who got reimbursed by DC directly, correct?

It's in your book in black/white. I've seen it and a friend of a friends 3rd cousins brothers friend used it.
But it is in the manual, whether or not they will honor it i don't know but it's worth $2300 to try.

I'm not sure on that.I have seen letters from Cummins that state something like,They sold the motors to Dodge without warrenties and Dodge has to honor all warrenty work? But this truck only has 30000 miles on it.Someone should cover it,if not thats poor. You guys would proberly know more about all that.

Scott's right, the wording is pretty specific in saying the Cummins warranty starts AFTER the 3/36.

Thing here, is that Cummins is not authorized to do warranty work on Dodge Trucks, that part is on Dodge (as you stated, the engine package goes to DC with NO warranty).

My suggestion for now would be that he tell them to leave it be for a few days until he is able to contact someone at DC to discuss this (and he read HIS warranty booklet or one for any 99 to see for himself the verbage).

It clearly states in his Dodge Warrentee books that (after) the basic 3/36 is up the 5/100 starts again on the engine and related parts such as IP.
He's going to fight it....

Oh, and of coures when he called the dealer he purchased it from they said "we don't show any such infomation on our computer"...
Luckly it's in his Dodge Owners/Warrantee Manual.

Well, at least he's back in business with a working truck.

If you get the chance, pop back in and let us know if he gets anywhere with the warranty loophole.

I'm going w/my neighbor to Martin Dodge NJ (route 42) tomorrow. This is where he purchased his truck new back in 99. Prior to him taking it to Cummins for the $2,700 repair he called Martin Dodge and they told him "your truck is out of warrantee" .
Now get this...from that same dealer at that time he also purchased an Extended warrantee...the dealer has no record of the extended warrentee he purchased.
Nothing is on their computer, that's their reply for EVERYTHING!

I told him, if I go to the dealer and fight your fight and Martin Dodge doesn't offer you anything, you had better plan on taking them to small claims court or all of this has been a waste of my time!
Because, it's in Dodges Owners Warrantee manual in BLACK and WHITE about the 8 year 100K warrantee on the Cummins and when it starts!
