Mysterious squeaky pully...

I just finished a 1300 mile road trip and during the trip on the second day in the morning ( i stopped for the night) when I started the truck i heard a squeaky pulley. I had just replaces the belt a few days prior with a gator back belt, and had also re-surfaced the pulleys with some coarse emory cloth (better friction surface for the belt). Now whenever I start her up cold (sitting overnight) I hear a pulley squeak, but only when cold, it dissapears after about 5-10 minutes of idling, or shorter if I start driving right away. Every pulley I turned by hand when I changed the belt seemed fine. I have no idea where to start looking. Anyone ever have this happen before?

I wonder if that belt dressing they sell at Sears might help?

It's not squeaky belt. The belt was replaced last week, and the pulley surfaces were scuffed up to give a better friction surface for the belt to grab. It sounds more like a squeaky pulley or pulley shaft. I can't put my finger on it at all.

My 03 did this right before the water pump went south. I would look there or at the idler or tensioner pulley.

Mine was doing the same thing about a two months ago. I would get my wife to stat it after it sat for awile. Then tried to pin pont where and what bearing was bad. just when i thought I had it then it would stop, that ****** me off. So after a few tries of that I got mad and just replaced the idler pulley and water pump had the alternater re-built and replaced the belt tensioner pulley, and belt. I should have just replaced the tensioner becouse two weeks after that it broke. But I did stop that squeaky start up. I hate weird noises, they drive me nuts. So I do over do it some times on repacing parts.

03 Qcad Sbox full gauges.

My bet is the belt tensioner. Couldn't get ride of the squeak until I replaced it. I still get the shut down chirp on humid days.

I had same thing, put new tensioner pulley and belt on and works great, no squekin. Actually had to have wife put on due to hand surgery the day before and she does good work may have started something, if I can talk her into it more often.
