is my wastegate bad if my truck sounds like it is blowing out air constantly???

i was driving home and i heard a sudden burst of air (really loud). what im thinkin is my wastegate is bad, or at least the spring inside is, because when im driving, it sounds like a hissing sound coming out of my exhaust and gets louder the harder i push on the gas. is the wastegate being held open constantly sending the boost straight out, or has something else happened?????

Check your intercooler boots carefully.

Yep, check all four intake boots. Wastegates usually get stuck and don't make much noise. If the wastegate was stuck open, your truck would be smoky and feel sluggish.

Definitely sounds like you had an intake boot let go. Sometimes they tear open, other times they simply slip off of the intake pipes and/or aftercooler. A trick I picked up for making sure they don't slip off is to use a little bit of hair spray when you reconnect them. They won't slip off as easily.

Also check the grid heater gaskets if you don't find a problem with the intercooler boots.

You should actually be able to hear it with the hood open and hitting the throttle, at least get you in the general direction.

thanks guys. it was my intake boot. the one that connects from the intercooler to the pipe right off the turbo slipped off. what a relief that is.
