You are probably doing just that, running out of fuel. Fuel pressure will lie!! Fuel pressure gages measure any pressure including air pressure. If I was going to check this I would tap into the fuel line with clear hose and run a loop of it out by the wipers and back to the vp44. Then hook it to another Ford or a tree or something and give it a pull. I bet you will see air in the line when it dies. If I an right let me know and we can discus diagnosing it.

How is a cracked exhaust manifold going to make the truck feel like it is running out of fuel?

my crack(lol) is about 2 inches in a bad spot right at the inlet(middle) apparently any pinhole may make a difference on you losing boost b4 the turbo. have the parts in hand just need to find the time!!! hopefully it holds on till then!! lots of force /pressure lost due to that flaw. if you find one fix it! did you get a 'slip' of about 300rpm? if so that was your electonic tranny sensor heating up and releasing your torque lock due to low boost /high heat on gauge. i do not claim to be expert but thats what i heard and where i am starting when i find time!!!!@! hopefully it is not anything more expensive!!

Even without the turbo the truck should not die. Have no power yes, but die no.
As I understand it the truck runs good then dies( as in motor not running).
