Help with hard starting and dying after warm up

TIA,

We have 2001 that we sent over to a very remote Bahamain Island...with only "bush" mechanics available. We were having trouble in idle, though staring was never an issue so we sent for and changed the fuel lift pump. (did not do the modification kit). Woked great for a day then starting became hard. Now, once it is started it runs great until it warms up (in fact the initial start up is easy) then it quits when putting it into gear, but seems fine under power.

Fuel filter looks fine, no water light.

Any help? Sending it to a mech requires shipping it to Nassau!

Thanks!

I would suspect an air leak (as in sucking air into a fuel line). They should verify all banjo fittings and inspect steel lines for cracks and rust, that will happen fast in tropical climate with salt spray. Air in fuel will cause the truck to drain fuel back to tank and "lose prime", and also can contribute to the demise of the VP44.
Another suspect would be the check valve on the VP44 - if it is not holding, the fuel again can drain out of the VP, losing prime.

The code reads P 1693, any ideas what that would indicate? Air in the fuel line makes sense if the guy installed the pump incorrectly as the problem came up just the day after he did the work. the instructions refer to the "banjo", any help on what they are and how to check if they are properly installed would be a great help! Thanks!
