My torque convertor is hurt. Suggestions?
My torque convertor is hurt. Suggestions?
Well my stock tranny is feeling the effects of my new injectors. When the TC is locked up and under power the RPM'S flare up and I have to back down. It's not as bad when locked up in drive but in OD it's bad. I need to cheap out right now so any suggestions on brand and place to buy. I tow with the truck (8K) so should I be looking at a triple disk since I don't have an upgraded valve body to boost line pressure?

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Change tranny fluid to good ATF+4 and add a high pressure valve body. No shop in right mind is gonna just put a new converter in a used unwarrantable transmission. Perhaps a cheap kit by Transgo will get you by for a bit.
There is a OD lockout on this truck if you recall.

I just serviced the tranny, I had to replace the governor solenoid. Will a good valve body stop the old TC from slipping? I guess it would be a cheap way to go if it works
I borrowed a smarty the other day and it shook my trasmission loose too. I now only have 1st gear and an empty wallet so you better learn to control the beast at the end of your right leg unless you want to be in my shoes.

It's hard to keep the power turned down, I know that I'm due for a tranny but can't spend the big dollars right now. I think that I will install a new valve body which I will need anyways and try to limp it for a little while. It still shifts great.
Took vehicle to Dodge dealership. Said engine is being put under a load because Torque Convertor is locking up due to faliure. Suggested replace trans assembly and flush cooler. Estimate around 4,200. Any suggestions on what to try first before I pay this. Truck is running fine right now as it unlocked during diag.???
Buy a new Goerend for $4250 shipped and be done with it. I don't have the money either so I get to support the credit card companies but it sure beats driving a broke truck. Now I have a bulletproof transmission that will handle the power with no sweat. He does a lot of stuff to the stock tranny and installs a billet shaft and triple disk TC. Sucks, but mine had 227K miles on it and I didn't want to throw small bucks at it until I had to throw big bucks at it....Throw the big bucks first and enjoy your new bulletproof tranny.... Your truck will drive like new.
