My rear posi is one wheel peeling! What kind of fluid do I need?
The clutches may be worn out or stuck. You have to put additive in with the gear oil when you change it. You can get it at most stores where gear oil is sold. Mine does the same thing as does my '77 Bronco. I have been wondering about a way to free them up.
Clutches are probably worn. No fluid can fix worn parts. As for fluid, Amsoil Severe gear 75w-110 would be a very good choice. The additive is a friction modifier, and allows the clutches to slip more. When you do a fluid change do not add the friction modifier at first. Do some tight figure 8 turns to work the new fluid into the clutch packs. If it starts scuffing the inside tire, then your LSD is working again. Add friction modifier to get the lockup to your taste, or don't add any. If it still does not lock up the unit is worn out, and needs to be rebuilt/replaced.
Mine was doing the same thing, I'd spin one tire on a mossy blacktop driveway and the other tire would just hold me in the spot. About a week later in the same spot my posi worked like a charm, a little slip and then the other tire grabbed an off I went. It has been working since. I noticed the faster I spun the single tire the less likely the posi was to catch. A slower spin and it grabs quickly. I don't know if this is normal but is working for now. KM
