Reman VP Low Power

Just installed a reman VP this week. once I got everything going again It seems I have a lot less power than my VP with 141K had (the only reason I changed was a seal problem caused by me).

I had been having issues with a couple of codes before the New VP (P0113 & P1693) IAT sensor issue, fixed that this weekend cleared all codes and still lower power than I had before. Truck would boost up and powerbrake before, now will not.

It will power to 3000 RPM in 1st and 2nd just takes longer to get there than it should IMO Max boost 12-13psi

Before VP change I had saw boost to 18

Also Reset the TPS after VP install (at first key on after battery hook up pressed accel to floor slowley and released slowley hope that was right)

EGT Before Turbo Max 800

FP 10 psi at the VP

Never see black smoke from exhaust ( I know that may not be bad)

Thanks for any advise guys and gals

Dealer replaced pump on friends truck several times for this. They even told him that the pressure had been turned down on the replacement pumps to try and satisfy him. I am not sure of the exact number of pumps but he probably has had 5 or 6 on his truck. It is still not right. They replaced the lift pump with the "in tank' unit twice and the pressure still goes to zero on hard acceleratiion. When this happens, the power drops. They don't have a clue what's wrong.

Did the key fall out during pump install? sounds like the VP is not giving enough fuel, just by the low boost & pyro numbers,

I guess its a bad rebuild??

then again my truck was an asbsolute dog to drive, it did not put out any black smoke, and if I floored it I'd have to wait a couple of seconds before the truck would even move, since I added the edge, black smoke is present on WOT (big puff actually) and the delay is almost non existant, Its a joy to drive now, and i'll never go back to the dog it was.

It is the right pump isn't it? It should be a 027. If its a 029, thats the pump for a medium duty engine and will have a lot less power than your original. the SO engines use the 027, the HO's use a 028, and like I said above, the medium duty trucks use the 029. Those numbers are the last 3 digits of the pump part #. Maybe they gave you a 029 by mistake.

sounds like NOT a rebuild, just a basic cheap fixed pump.

Pump probably came from a truck with 3-400000 miles, most specs on the very high limit.

There is something different about the VP44 used on 98.5 ISBs. When I purchased a replacement pump for my 98.5 I had to wait for one to be rebuilt. The standard 027 was somehow different and could not be used. I purchased a Code: 0470506005 from Industrial Injection Service and looking at their web site it seems there are a lot of different pumps for different model years.

Here is a link showing all the various pumps, a lot more than just the 027 for standard output and 028 for high output:

http://www.industrialinjection.com/m...VP44+Fuel+Pump

I wish I knew what the difference was. Maybe someone can enlighten us.

Well I forgot to add powerservice or any additive to the fuel since the rebuild added power service to the last two tanks and two stroke oil to the last tank and now I am getting 15lbs of boost and will now power brake the 2 stroke oil seemed to help the most.

The only other thing is maybe after having the P0113 code may be it took some running to reset the computer.
