My motah!
Hey there.
when i turn my motor off, 49 out of 50 times it "screetches to a halt"
the dealer, without looking at the truck more than out the service window says that it is okay...
is anyone elses motor making this noise?
it seems to happen on the last 'stroke'
thanks

Its common sweak that cummins 5.9 does. Mine 02 does it and my dad's 01 does the same. The engine just stops to fast for the accessories that are still spinning. I'm guessing that its from the several pistons pushing that 18:1 compression with no fuel that forces the engine to make a dead stop.

I read on here somewhere, sometime that it is normal due to the high compression actually relieving by backing the pistons off a hair at shut down.
A sudden stop and a "rutch " backwards to slip the belt! rutch, rutch , is that a word? sty

Perfectly normal.
Mine doesn't do it all the time, seems to do it most after I've run the A/C or defroster
(which actually turns on the A/C if you didn't know).
If you don't like it, you can replace the belt with a Goodyear Gatorback, that seems to fix it.
This is the part number, from the tech facts.
