Is my boost pressure correct ?

I just installed a boost gauge, and found out my max boost is at 17lbs. I read the specs for my truck and it says 20.6lbs max. Where are my 3 lbs missing ????

I checked all the hoses, cleaned up IAT but haven'e messed with MAP
What controls pressure, and is it possible to increase it ?

Thanks

depends on how your running the truck for that reading. If your towing a good load you might see the 20 or if empty up a grade you can prolly do it but empty on lever ground you will have a hard time puttin enough load on the truck .

Valv,
I have a '99 also and I can only muster up 17 psi too. Haven't tried checking while towing since I have towed very much yet.

The wastegate isn't an exact science, things get old and rusty, worn out.

Also, the guage might not be dead on accurate.

On a stock truck (without a boost fooler), you will set a code if the boost goes above the max (20.6). That's where the max value comes from. If I remember correctly, when my truck was stock (it's been awhile), that was about the boost I was making.
