My '99 CTD dually project !!!
My '99 CTD dually project !!!
Ok, it's time to reveal the project I am starting.
Just to introduce myself, I had several diesel trucks, a '99 Stroke, a '00 Stroke, a '98 Chevy 6.5, but I always wanted a Cummins. Dodge is my love from day 1.
I bought this '99 3500 dually 4x4 with 170,000 miles, auto tranny, Sport, black and damaged.
It hit something on front left tire and differential, pushed front driveline into transfer case (opened it in half), twisted transmission and broke bellhousing, even troque converter and flexplate got damaged.
Oil pan was smashed open from front differential, all 4 control arms bent, shocks gone, and few more little things that will be replaced (steering linkages, torsion bar, etc.).
Whatever they hit, they hit it hard, but body is in excellent conditions.
I ordered a new oil pan, flexplate, gasket and just finished installation...cranked it up and after bleeding lines, she fired up like a tiger. The sound of this motor running gives me goosebumps (yes, I am sick and I admit it....
).
Now it's tranny time, I've been asking on this forum many weird questions, but tomorrow I will go and check a smashed 2004 Freightliner delivery van with a ISB Cummins and an auto transmission. I speculate it's an Allison 2000 but I am not sure until I see it, and I will look at which ISB is on it.
I intend to install it on my dually, since my tranny will be very expensive to replace due to no core charge fees.
I can go with some of the Ebay options, but I will look into the Allison first.
Well now I vented this out, I will let everybody know how's going with this project, and I intend to have truck up and running by weekend or first part of next week.
If anybody needs some hint on a similar project, just email me, I'll be glad to help out if I can.
For all the ones that will ask if it's woth it.....yes, I paid not much for the truck, and I have a LOT OF ROOM to play before getting close to market value, that's the way I see it.

Sounds like fun. I've always wanted a project, other than my daily driver. There is nothing like driving something you know you did all your self. And it's a CUMMINS! Thats an added bonus! Good Luck. Let us know how it goes.

Seems to me you have left out a few items to be up and running by this weekend what about a transfer case and if you do have the case how are you going to connect it to the allison ? I have never seen an isb/allison equiped 4x4 delivery van! Just wondering on line-- should be a good truck when you are done wish my 99 quadcab dually was 4x4 but then again i might be tempted to take it out in the snow + salt .Not a good idea because it might not make my goal then to run it 1 million miles almost 1/4 of the way there now.
You are correct (fedex wishes here too) do you think this $$%$$# white stuff is going to get out of here soon i have had enough time for some warmth so i can get some projects finished and get some toys out to play!
