Most miles on truck

We were talking in the office about whether a diesel is worth the extra $$. Besides the extra power I say they last longer but I have no proof.
I baby mine and in 16 yrs I've only put ~ 200k with no other engine work than a VP that I broke being stupid and a crank sensor.
Who has the most milage their truck without major work?

My 2001 has almost 240,000, expect a lot more.

My previous 1992 had over 250,000, the odometer broke at about 240,000 drove it for years like that so I have no idea of real miles.

I have a 2001 2500 cummins RWD truck that has 406427 in the meter.
The trans has been rebuilt 3 times and the motor is original, never even opened for inspection.

It is my work truck. (Ilive in Finland)

Im planning to hit 1000 000 miles whit it.

I had my first Dodge truck at -99 it was the w250 Cummins that i drove 300 000 miles before i sold it.

American elctronic is cinda interesting cauce i used to pour cold water to my W250 rams MCU to stop water in fuel light gloing ( there were no water in fuel) and to get overdrive to work. Later i found out that my vecihle was 91,5 model, wich had a intercooler and a crappy MCU.

2001 runs well, n im having a ball humiliating some BMW owners on the trafficlights

I think you need to post this question over on the 3rd and 4th gen boards. Most of us use our older trucks as part time or playtoys.

I know there were several hot shotters on the 3rd gen board that were racking up 200K or more miles a year on theirs.

I would bet there are some million milers out there.

The problem we have is our truck are now getting pretty old and the long haul reliability is starting to be questionable. My 2001 just towed my 97 Jeep wrangler home last weekend due to a fuel pump failure, The jeep has 310,000 original engine & trans. I believe she just graduated to local driving.

When you get to 300,000 you can request a pewter 300,000 mile club license plate frame from Chrysler/Dodge Jeep

'85 crew with 12V under 100,000
'85 crew with 12V 440,000+

The one with 440,000 has had the alternator and lift pump changed.
The engine has never been opened.

Both crew cabs have had the o-ring seals in the VE pump redone.

I'm not sure this is a topic you can "prove" if you're trying to debate someone, but I think the general consensus of people will agree that a diesel engine will far outlast a gasoline engine. That said, todays gasoline engines will last a long long time if they're maintained diligently.

As for how many miles you'll normally find on these diesel trucks..... You'll hear that hundreds of thousands of miles is quite common. Over half a million is not unheard of either. And there's even threads with guys who have over a million miles.

Not to many years ago there was a thread somewhere about a hot shot driver who had almost 2 million miles on his 2002 dually. The truck had been regularly maintained and obviously towing a trailer constantly. But.....even though he racked up a crazy amount of miles on his truck, the real amazing part of the story was that he was still running the OEM factory VP. Thats unheard of.....

With that many miles, I doubt he has time to shut the engine off very often, Maybe VP44's are like light bulbs, they only go bad when you turn them on?

A concept heavily discussed throughout the years.

351,000 on my 99 Dually. 20+ mpg average.

VP, 3 lift pumps, CPS once a year, batteries every 3 years, clutch gone at 150k, tiers at about 90k, starter, alternator. That's about it for major repairs.

I carry AAA RV for trips on the hook, haha

In Finland diesel fuel is cheaper than gas, becauce of the taxes.

I have a 2001 2500 4x4 I bought new. Have 496,000 plus miles on it now.
Only major engine problem was a leaking head gasket at 470,000 miles but still ran fine, just leaked. Original auto transmission also, had to change the servo at 270,000 miles.
All I do is change the fluids at regular intervals.

How often do you change oil/filter?
How often do you adjust your valves?
