In the middle of Mystery Switch install
HELP!!! Mystery Switch Puzzle..
Im in the middle of this now and need some guidance!! It was suggested that I tap the orange/black wire close to the transmission, rather than at the computer behind the air cleaner box....so I'm crawling around under the truck and I'm not sure what I'm looking for! It's the truck in the sig.: 01 4x4. There are plugs and wires on the drivers' side near the linkage assemblies next to the transfer case and forward drive shaft, but I dont know what Im supposed to be looking for! With the transfer case on there, the tail section isn't so easy to spot for me.
Sorry, but Im a 'manual gearbox' guy and all this looks unfamiliar! Thanks in advance!!

Thanks for the reply! Out of frustration, I tapped the wire behind the airbox, put the whole thing together and BINGO!!!! It doesn't work.
****** off at the world, will look at it tomorrow. Just don't understand how something so simple can beat me up like this! LOL

Are you using the schematics that are posted on here? If not do a search for mystery switch light. It involves running a LED off a relay, but really simple to do. What kind of switch are you using also?
HELP!!!!!!!!!! I'm now on day #2 of the simplest install there is!! I don't get it!! My connections are good, the light on the toggle switch comes on, good ground, but nothing happens. This is a 1 hour job, and I'm half-way thru full day #2!! Any suggestions on diagnosing? Switch is Radio Shack toggle, lighted...using #14wire. Thanks guys.

Try switching out the lighted switch for just a plain 2-prong switch. The lighted switch that I tried to use was sending a constant ground thru the light and locking the t/c. Are you sure you got the correct wire?
OK...I finally got it to work!! This is a 3-prong switch, and as it was, the switch would light up when turned on, but no TC lockup. Now, by moving one wire to the center "acc" prong, I get TC lock but no "ON" light. Do I need to bridge the switch?
OK, those lighted switches need a hot wire to the switch to be able to light it up. The way you are using the switch is grounding the wire to the transmission. You will have a tuff time getting it to work right. When you had it working before, the light was was getting power from the computer. Not good. Better to run it like you have it now and forget about the lighted switch. You might try running a hot wire to the extra terminal on the switch, but it might cause problems. Good idea to fuse it just in case. I'd hate to see you burn out your computer!
