Max RPM Question

On my 2001...I can easily push past the redline...which I don't do often. But I also read about governors etc...and mine does not seem to be governed. Is this normal? As long as I lay into it slowly and don't spike the boost pressure, I can rev pretty high...

Just curious.

Roughly 4200 rpm is considered the maximum for stock to mildly souped up trucks. And some modification is required to achieve this.

Do you mean to say that if some clod at the sniffer station does the SNAP test, the tach is going to 4200rpm? I shift at 3200 in a contest. I'd come apart with a joker banging my engine to 4200.

No, I don't mean that at all. You asked what RPPM the engine could stand. That was the correct answer. The stock engine will only accelerate to about 2,800 RPM.

Ahhh....I have not modified my engine at all and I can easily push it past 3500...I have not ever gone in to the 4000's but I probably could. I just think it is wierd that a stock engine usually will go to 2800-3000 and stop...mine does not.

Thankfully we have no sniff tests here in TX...yet.

Ok, thanks.
I think if I had to do a SNAP, my engine would only rev to maybe 2800 then do that real sloooow

I believe 3300 is red line. So, why do you want to go beyound this? One guy I read about in a Porsche, put a sign on his tach past the red line: "THIS IS REAL EXPENSIVE"
How much does it cost to replace a blown motor?
I feel uncomfortable running 3000 down a hill in a lower gear with a load.

I didn't say I wanted to...( go beyond redline) I had always thought and heard that the trucks were governed at 2800...so I tested it to see. Mine is not. I was just surprised so I was wondering if I was wrong that they are governed. That's all. I don't run that high...too risky.

My '92 "Rastus" was goverened at 2700rpm. Floor the pedal and 2700 was all I got.
It was a good truck too, ya'll remember Rastus?...wish I could've kept it.
