Max fuel temp?

Buddy of mine has a 2000 w/ edge juice. Wondering what the average fuel temp is and what the max fuel temp he should watch out for is?

When a friend's injector pump failed in the hot Texas summer a coupla years ago, he said the hot fuel nearly scalded his hand when he checked his fuel filter.
I don't know what the temperature was but it must have been pretty hot.

Mine gets so hot that the ip starts to detune to save its self. It takes a small while, but my return line would get so hot it would burn ya. I ended up installing a trans cooler on the return near the tank. I also put a valve on it so I can bypass the cooler in winter.

would it hurt to put it(cooler) on the feed line to the pump instead of a return line

I dont think it would hurt. Maybe a slight psi drop due to the twists and turns of the cooler.

I did some research on this when I had my 2000. The info that I found was the fuel temperature should not be warmer than 160 degrees going into the injection pump.

anybody ever measured the fuel temp coming into the IP? how about the return line? other than an infrared temp gun it might be a bit involved, but some comparison numbers might give an idea of the ranges we're seeing...

I put mine on the return line on purpose...no pressure. It's gravity all the way back to the fuel tank...no spray in the event of a leak.

Thanks a lot for the replies! Yea, 160* is hotter than I would have expected. I think I might even put a cooler on either my return or inlet line (Gonna do some research on it). Like the VP44 the VE is also cooled by fuel. I will pass this info. along! Thanks again for the replies!
