Manual trans Hydraulics???

A buddy of mine is in the middle of replacing the hydraulics for his clutch with SBC's heavy duty assembly. Two issues came up.

#1: the ram that goes through the firewall seems to have locked into place so it won't pull back out, but it rotates easily... like maybe it could rotate and come loose eventually. he doesnt see any grommets or washers that came loose or anything. Does anyone know what he may have done to cause a sloppy fit?

#2: He can't figure out how to get the hydraulic coupling together in the middle of the system, there aren't any sleeves or the such (like an air fitting), it looks like they need to be forced together... but he doesnt want to screw it up. how does he get it together?

Oh its a 02 six speed

#1, what year of truck are we talking about.

#2, I didn't have any troubles with my master cylinder coming loose. Once you've unbolted the assembly(underneath the steering wheel) you should only have to turn the master cylinder 90 degrees counterclockwise and it should pull right out... you should cut the hydraulic lines because they only get in the way.

#3, The coupling in the middle is a press fitting of sort. The line from the master cylinder should have a fitting that presses over the line from the slave cylinder... think compressed air tools.

On my 2001.5 it appears I didn't have to remove the mounting hardware from the firewall to remove the master cylinder/pushrod. The pushrod cylinder comes free from the mount when you rotate it approx. 90 degrees, if I had known this ahead of time it would have saved removing the three mounting bolts at the firewall.

#2 i forced them togather be for putting the unit on and ive had no problems to date i love the new unit
