lp dead, will vp44 last??? do lp's throw codes?
lp dead, will vp44 last??? do lp's throw codes?
Ok,
My delivery pressure can now effectively be called the big ZERO.
I parked my truck and am waiting for my new LP to arrive.
I guess my harley will have to do until I get the new one in.
QUESTION:
What are the chances my VP will puke soon???? it has around 60K miles on the VP (new one in 03).,,all of the 60K was with lubricity additive in the fuel. NO codes, but then, my lift pump does not throw a code.....isn't it supposed to.?
The truck has always started with a half a second crank, cold or hot. I rarely go over 60 and never tow or WOT. And I just check the pressure periodically (not nearly enough, I know, I just get too busy and then forget about it for a few months...I'm still sort of taking it easy after the holidays) with a guage I screw directly into the fuel filter case. I don't leave it there because even though it does 15 lbs. max (my pump was never near 15 pounds even when new), you are not supposed to exceed 60 percent of the limit of the guage..or something like that. So, I am trying to ascertain if I should find a place to get a nice VP...or just wait and see what happens. I have never been a fan of the VP or lp since they replaced the 1st ones on warranty. I hear about high performance ones,...I would be interrested if the high performance was referring to the longeivity (as well as power gains, although I wouldn't use the power gain).
By the way, I have one of these pressure gauges on my harley similar to the one I check the dodge with. (In addition to a low pressure light). Sometimes the guage on my harley will go to zero (usually when hot), but there is still pressure there and the low pressure light does not come on (once in a while it will flicker if I am at a very low idle for very long,...I think it flickers at 7 pounds or less, but the guage reads zero long before that.). SO I'm wondering if the guages are reliable in all conditions???? Still gonna put a new LP on cause it's time anyway.
Anybody got 2 cents on this one.???

I needed a bigger truck, and I HATE buying trucks. So I bought one I thought I would NEVER have to buy a truck again as long as I live.
I wanted something that would go up a hill with my work boxes in my truck and not slow down without downshifting. Sometimes I have a bunch of 2x4s or such. I am a builder, so if it's not delivered to the job, I usually have to take it there. That's why I got a diesel dodge. My 318 has given me a lot less trouble over a longer period of time, even though I hate to admit it.
But I'm usually not too comfortable going much over about 60 to 65 miles per hour. I'm at that age where my eyes are starting to go to hell and I think that is a lot of it. Especially at night, I don't like to go in thick traffic. My brother in law says just get glasses like we all do when we get over 40, but so far I haven't yet, and I think I'm about 46 or so (have to ask my wife or mom for sure on that one,,,I lost track a long time ago).

I think this time I'll just screw the guage into the housing and leave it there. checking idle pressure every morning and evening. I can't see why they only like you to go to 60 or 70 percent of the guages max.??? (I guess I should have got a 30 instead of a 15, but I didn't know until I already had it that they don't recommend over 2/3 of the max). Oh, well. I guess they think if it maxes out it may bend and then you'll get faulty readings, but in the case of the lp, the main thing is that it is somewhere up there noticable past zilch.
OK, I like this board quite a bit, It's too bad this is the only time of year I get time read and reply to posts on it. It sure beats the crap out of reading owner's manuals. I used to buy a factory service manual (for way too much $$) for every vehicle I owned. They started to get pretty p?ss poor in the late 80s early 90s. I remember I paid a hundred bucks for a mazda miata (wife) manual, and found out I had to pay an extra 40 or 50 just to get the electrical addendum.
. But for my diesel dodge, I am content to have DTR. However, if I ever need to change my VP, I may get a manual if they don't have instructions on this site somewhere. I think the site has many little bits of info. that the factory manuals will leave out.

Just get some braided line and run it up in between the hood and cowling so that it sits in front of your windsheild wiper. Very simple setup that you can see al the time and not have fuel running into the cab. Ther's some quick shots in my gallery if you don't understand my ramblin. As far as your Injector pump, that's a crap shoot, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to when they die and why. I had a few thousand miles of pulling trailers on mine with no lift pump until I got it fixed and the VP still went another 50,000 past that.
