LP dead, need a quick fix on a budget...

I’m going to change my LP very soon. I think it is dying, or already dead. I don’t have a gauge (yeah yeah, I know…), but I don’t always hear it when bumping the starter now. I think the cold weather may have done it in. My question is this, I don’t have the $ right now to invest what I want into it so I’m going with the campaign pump with a pig tail for the wiring to reach. Would it be wise to purchase a relocation kit at this time as well to move the LP back to the frame or just plug and play a campaign pump until I can invest in a better system?

It is easier for the pump to push then pull. I would move it to the frame. You could also throw a Holley Blue on the frame for about $100 bucks. That alone would really increase your psi. Oh, before I forget, GET A FUEL GAUGE!! It is cheap insurance on that expensive VP-44.

you know I picked up a fuel press gauge from northerner tool supply for $3.00 each a little 1 1/2 " gauge that I mounted under the hood on my filter test ports. as a back up /insurance if the inside goes wacky. but for you it would be better than nothing. as for replaceing the pump. I wouldn't mess with the carter pump mine lasted 6months. and it left me straded. I would go with a walbro kit from www.Wideopendiesel.com they have the cheapest priced kits around and are great quality. I have one and love it. well hope this help.

Don't worry about it, just keep driving it until it dies. Then replace the lift pump and the VP-44 for about $2,500.

I'm going to run by Northern Tool tonight and pick up a gauge for under the hood until I can get a setup in the cab… I've looked at all the options you all have recommended, still pricey for my budget right now though. I know some guys have luck with the campaign pump and there are lots that don't, but it still seems to be the cheapest route to go unless someone else has another idea not previously mentioned...
