low range 2 WD

I tow very heavy from time to time (25000lbs.) and could benefit from using low range in tight areas without 4WD. Does anyone know if my 2002 4WD 1 ton auto can be rigged with the 2 wheel drive low kit that works off of vacumn?

Also depends on if your 2002 has the central axle disconnect, or if it's a late 2002 with the solid front axle.

How do I determine if I have the solid front axle or the central axle disconect? I ordered my truck in late March of 2002 and took delivery in May.

Definately a 2002.5 then.

If you want to make sure, check the front axle for a box looking thingamajig mounted on the axle tube with 2 vaccum lines and a couple of wires coming out of it.

2001.5 was the last year model for the cad. I have a two low kit on my truck but my buddies 2002 couldn't do it without some locking hubs.

Sounds like I'm not going to be able to do this without a considerable expense. Does anyone know what is involved and about what the cost would be?

Putting locking hubs on a 2002 runs around $2500 bucks.

Yes, two thousand, five hundred dollars, just for the kit and you lose your ABS.

Be cheaper to custom fit a ford front axle in it.

About all I use the 4wd for on mine is the low range. I am seriously considering going to a straight axle from a c and c model. Lighter weight and same results.
