Low power, VP??

I guess I'll start my own thread, seeing as I dont want to hijack " New VP44 Wow!!!!"
So to recap, My new to me truck has low power (can be beat by a Chev 6.5 easily)
So far
1. new filters, air/fuel
2. Fuel pressure tested Idle 14psi WOT lowest 5.5psi, average 8 psi normal driving, checked pre-filter
3 did the APP relearn (no test drive yet)
4. pulled dash to fix hi-beam indicator, and found that someone had pulled the check eng lite!!! my build date is Mar 2000, can codes be read thru the Odometer? I tried with my snap-on and no codes found. I have not driven the truck since replacing the bulb, I'll find out tomorrow if the truck trips any codes.
5 Truck is making boost at low rpm as it is easily heard since removing the "snorkel" that goes into the inner fender, will instal a boost gauge in a couple of days.
6 no diesel rattle, runs quiet, all throttle positions, even on start up,
7 engine runs smooth, no misses or strange smoke, just dead off the line

I'm thinking I'm gonna need an IP

That's how mine's going out. The last 3 dynos have confirmed that I am indeed losing power steadily. Truck runs great though. Better than it ever has. Oh well. It's only money right.

nickg, I've got a 6.9 in an '84 Ford. When the timing was off on it it acted like you're describing. I could almost set the timing by the sound of the engine.

Best bet at this time is to test for Boost pressure - I won't even mention the PMD on top of the IP..................
