Had the truck in Cruise Control at 75. Tapped the brake pedal to begin slowing down and when it came out of CC the overdrive went OFF and wouldnt come back. I pulled over and shut it all down and restarted. Starts out in second gear. Feel shift to 3rd then can feel the TC lock up. No overdrive, no 1st gear. No check engine light. Otherwise truck/tranny seems fine. Fluid good/ no smell. Pushing OD switch makes no diff.
Cruise still works.

This sounds like your tranny went into "limp" mode. One of the sensors on the trans had a hickup and makes the trans start out in 2nd gear. You will need a shop with a scan gauge to read the different sensors and they can tell you which needs to be replaced.

I had this happen when I drove over a very rough road. When I got home went to a good trans shop and had him look at it. Also went to dealer and he said needed a trans rebuild. Guy at trans shop said no it was not the trans. Guy at trans shop found trrouble was broken wire in harness that goes from comp. to trans. Have had no trouble since.LOL

 

Just traced the problem to a shorted 3-4 shift solenoid. Time to call the dealer-
