Loss of oil pressure with a rookie
I am a rookie to this Diesel world. I bought the truck (01 2500 2wd 6 spd.) Just 6 months ago. the old lady got a travel trailer, so I had to get something to pull it. Its my daily driver. Well I lost oil pressure. then shut the engine off , sat for a minute and started the engine again. the oil pressure came up , but even higher than normal. It ran fine for a minute then the oil pressure bottomed out again. I have no idea what it is, the best i can figure from reading these threads is that it is a pressure sending unit. I need some help. I am mechanically stupid. I am an electrician but i dont no anything about engines.

Just make sure everything is tight. I had similar problems and didn't realize i was losing precious oil. Back then I was having my oil changed at a lube place, they however skipped the "Making sure the filter was tight class"!

I lost a oil pressure sending unit at about 45K. If I was to do it again I would check my pressure myself with a mechanical gauge before I took it in. That is what they did after I had mine hauled to the dealer (75 miles). The dealer told me that it was not covered under the engine warranty, but I had enough shop time into it I was screwed and bought it from them. Needless to say I called the corporate office and told them if they wouldn't cover the sending unit I was going to keep driving the next time my pressure dropped to zero. They didn't like that idea, but didn't cover any of the repair either. Luckily my auto insurance covered the $275 haul and I only was out $230. I wish I would have done it myself.
