Losing Fuel Prime
Losing Fuel Prime
Normally when we hear of a 2nd gen truck losing fuel prime, it tends to be leaking o-rings on the banjo fitting on the back of the cylinder head near the firewall.
My issue is definitely different. I only lose fuel prime if I park the truck level, or nose-down. If I park it nose-up, then there is no issue.
I did have a shop replace the o-rings on the banjo fitting at the rear of the head. They also replaced all the injector lines. I have verified that all the injector lines are properly torqued down on the crossover tubes.
I'll be tearing into things soon to deal with a grid heater issue, and at the same time I plan on snugging down the injector lines on the VP44.
Based on the symptoms I've mentioned, is there anything else I should be looking at?
Thanks,
Mike

Check all the other hose, fittings and connections from the tank to the lift pump to the VP pump. Any signs of diesel on any hose or fitting is going to reflect a leak, possibly pin hole but where fuel comes out, air gets in. This all should be dry and not oily from diesel. I'd then check the Fass, connections in and out. Also check the gasket of the factory filter canister, the top of it and the gaskets on the actual filter.
Not likely an issue from the VP injector lines to the actual injectors.

Just thought I'd reply back to this one. I never did find any fuel drips under the truck, and for the past several weeks the truck has started perfectly, regardless of whether it was parked nose up or nose down.
All I can think of is that it took a while to clear some air out of the injector lines maybe.

Just a quick followup after a couple of months.
The truck still fires up beautifully on the 2nd or third turn. So hopefully it was just taking a long time working some residual air out of the fuel system.
Thanks for the replies!
