Big day tomorrow
Big day tomorrow
Ok guys, got a big day planned tomorrow since my truck started leaking oil, I have since learned the seal in between the vacuum pump and the p/s pump is the culprit, now a new problem, my front 4 injectors lines are leaking fuel and i need some advice, I talked to a tech at the local cummins that said there are some o-rings in the injector tubes in the head that are to blame, so could anyone point me in the right direction on how to replace them, im leaving soon to go pickup the parts and will do the work tomorrow so any help would be greatly appreciated
The O-rings on the injector tubes are quite easy if you are a patient person.
You'll need to remove the injection lines, I prefer to keep them bundled as they are for the front three and rear three cylinders. Loosen injector line nuts on the pump, remove the clips that hold the lines together from where they are attached and make shure you will know where to put them while reinstalling (I use different colours of electricians tape and a permanent marker), loosen injector lines from the head and tilt the lines away from the engine. Do not bend those lines!
Then you can remove the connector tubes by wiggling them lose with a screwdriver.
Now you'll see the O-ring on each of them and voila!
Reinstall in reverse order.

Take your digital camera out and take a picture before you start, then you'll have a reference later if you can't get a fuel line to fit. Sometimes you can rotate them just a little and you'll swear it's a totally different piece when you go to put it back!!
I know this isnt recommended by anyone at all.. but the lines move fairily easy if you take the nuts off the injectors and just unbolt the lines from the head and from each other.. Its really a PITA to get them off the injection pump, much easier to just loosen them enough you can move them off the injector without force.
Well we got it all done today, didnt have any problems except cummins gave me the wrong tube orings but i got that straightened out and I think all is well but I guess time will tell, the vacuum pump seal was pretty simple and cummins gave some good instructions with the kit which was helpful, so anyhow thanks for all the help guys.
