Fuel lines in the head

Okay, so my truck is starting hard again and the fuel is leaking from the fittings at the head, again. Last time I just replaced the 6 steel lines, but not the lines in the head.

Does anyone know the part name, or even the part number, of the fuel tubes inside the head that connect to the injector? I know they have a different design than those that came in the 98 originally, and I want to be sure I get those. I don't wanna replace this junk a third time.

thanks for any info!

You are referring to the "connector tubes" that go from the fuel lines to the injectors.

Darren, when you replaced the 6 fuel lines, did you make sure to start them at the pump and head before tightening any of the clamps? Sometimes if a line is replaced, you have to really take care in lining up the connectors at both ends before putting the insulators on or tightening the bolts holding the lines down.

didnt the 98 24v require changing out the connector tubes whenever the fittings were disconnected? i thought the connector tubes that came with the 98's were a one time use, tightened to yield and must be discarded if that connection was undone? if so, maybe that is the reasoning behind the leaking.

i have a slow computer, but will try and do a search for this...

im back...my search ended up with a thread that you were involved in and i was incorrect in saying yielding but rather they do deform.

back to the main question...i have no idea as to what the part number is. sorry

I should probably get off my duff and do some searching for myself. I'll hit up the dealership, too.

Thanks anyways.

check e-bay, there are usually a set or two on there most of the time. You might have to buy a set of core injectors with them but you shouldn't have any more in that than just buying a new set from dodge or cummins. A set of the bigger tubes from haisley sell for about $120 and your cores, but with no cores I don;t know what they would cost

If you do not align fuel lines properly(as Monty stated) or if you overtighten fittings, it will result in leaks. Sounds like your injector crossover tubes may now be distorted.

Tubes do not require to be changed unless distorted/twisted or marred/cut (these are caused by overtightening resulting in fuel leaks). O-rings SHOULD be changed out on crossover tubes when in there, but if they are not cut or hard they can be re-used, just re-oil.

I would change all crossover tubes and o-rings, check ALL mating surfaces(clean or replace if required), and follow proper sequence of reinstalling pieces. A DC or Cummins service manual will be worth the money if you are doing any work on your engine.

Thats what I'm talking about. There is a parts dealer from Arizona who sell a ton of parts on e-bay and he usually sells the tubes with a set of injectors
