Lift Pump Smell
I just bought a brand new lift pump off of e-bay but while it looks brand new it has a smell of diesel. Does Carter test their pumps before they sell them or did I just get had? There is no diesel dripping out of it just the smell of diesel. The pump has no scratches or any other marks on it at all to make me think it isn’t brand new. What do you all think?
This is my first time to change out the lift pump on my truck so I am totally new to it.

All pumps I bought until now regardless of manufacturer had been tested and had residual fluid in them. Gasser pumps usually some kind of oil and diesel pumps diesel.
You can tell whether new or used by looking at the threads.
I'd suggest that you get a FP gauge to constantly monitor FP (sometimes the pumps were dead out of the box even though they were tested )

Thanks for all the feed back on this. I'm sure the diesel smell is just what yall are thinking it is. The pump looks brand new with no scratches or messed up threads.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
