Lift Pump search results.

Hey all, My search today found a stock type, side of the block, lift pump with an electrical plug on the bottom, and a pigtail adapter to connect to the stock wire harness connector. This find was at the Cummins Parts Distribution Center in Irvine, Ca. My reason for looking there, was the only option from the dealership was to go into the fuel tank with their new in-tank lift pump. Where DO you put 32 gal. of fuel? I wasn`t going to juggle a full tank. $390some odd price for the upgrade! WOW!! Cummins charged me $180 out the door. And no heavy juggling. Still alot though. I will put it in in the morning. I will also look at the fuel tank module supply line dia. when I burn off most of my fuel. Like CalRoberts did, I too, will go have a looksee at the parts counter and make my plan of attack. Again thank you all for the help. Mark.

Talking Cummins lift pump installed.

Yea buddy. Job complete. Wire pigtail hooks up fine. Stock banjos screwed in fine. Preasure good and stock,(will work on that later). P/N for the pump is 4943048, $150.31. Then the wire harness P/N 4025182, $17.03. These prices and P/N are at Cummins Cal Pacific, LLC in Irvine, Ca. The truck pulls great around the on ramp and up to redline up to 4th before I got into the post Xmas traffic.

I bought one from Cummins for $89, price should have been about $20 less but it was still a good price.

Copied and pasted from another post here:
Carter Campaign LP part number PN# 4090046

That's the right part number for the Cummins Campaign pump. I got mine at a Cummins parts dealer for $64. Try another place. This Campaign pump is supposed to be for sale only to busses and emergency vehicles, not Dodge trucks. So the parts guy is supposed to ask you for the VIN number for the bus you're working on, some do and some don't (mine didn't care). Don't tell them what you're working on, just say you want one of these pumps. If they ask what its on say a school bus. $210 is the price of the same fuel pump for Dodge trucks, I'm not sure if the two pumps are mechanically identical or not, some say yes others say no. Good luck

Results!

Hey all, As I come WALKING back. Sooooo, when the truck goes into limp mode after running real good for about 6miles after a lift pump change, safe to say the VP44 took ME in the shorts? Just got back from getting a FP gage and installing it to read 9-10 psi at the limp mode(idle). I bleed the injectors again, no good. I don`t have a code reader to check my codes, so i am out of luck. YIKES!!!!!!!!! Just got off the phone with the dealer, $2100 for a rebuilt VP44. Is this right??? Where is that $1000 unit? I will be calling around tomorrow.

Be sure to run the scanner before you spend $$$. Just to make sure. I did and the crankshaft position sensor came up twice. $65 at AutoZone. It's up behind the starter so you have to remove the starter too. Also loosen 1, 3, and 4 injector lines and see if there is fuel coming out.

If you finally have to do the VP-44:
Search around and you will find about 1000 to 1100 plus shipping. There are a few even under 1000 but....??? Some places will charge you 400 for core charge then return it, others will give you 30 days to return the pump before charging core charge..

I was quoted 2800 and they wanted about 400 more for the intank lift pump. No warantee with out the intank pump. got fly a kite.....
There are a number of instruction lists posted complete with the tool list. We did it in the back yard in about 4 hours working time in 40 deg weather so it is not a hard job. northwest bombers has good pictures on theirs.

key tools are 19mm or 3/4 crowfoot preferably a line wrench (harbor freight for $9), 10mm 12 pt combination wrench (for the starter), steering wheel puller (just use the intake bolts and some washers), a stubby 19mm or 3/4 comb wrench. The other tools are pretty standard.
