Well after all this business I had been through with the fass I had loosened my injector lines #1 and #3 to bleed the air. Well now number #one leaks. I have tightened it with a lot of might. It is wet under that 19 mm fitting. I have never done injectors or even taken off the valve cover. So I am wondering what else it could be. How does it seat to the head or the fuel tube? Maybe an oring? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. the truck runs pretty good. no stumble.

 

Try completely loosening the 19mm nut AND the 8mm bolt on the injector retaining bar for #1. You'll have to remove the valve cover. Then re-tighten BOTH of them, alternating from 19mm to 8mm. They're really touchy and have to be tightened just so to not leak, at least on my truck.

While you have it apart, you should replace the O-ring (It's <$0.50 from a dealer, IIRC).

I wouldn't take valve cover off just yet. Remove #1 injector line from injector tube at bottom of valve cover, and loosen #1 inj. and attaching other line clamps to pump. Once it is loose enough inspect taper end on tube, there is probably a ridge formed from sealing edge, or it's covered in corrosion. Get very fine emery cloth and follow contour of taper, and LIGHTLY remove ridge/corrosion. Check female end of tube also for nicks/burrs etc and clean good.

Tighten line back up tight, but not with too much force, if you don't have crowfoot adapter on torque wrench. If leak has stopped leave alone. If slight leak still, just give it a touch more until it stops. Most times leaks are caused by overtightening inj. line previously at this spot, this method usually stops the leak, without any need of taking valve cover off.

How do you get the line off? I pulled the 19 mm nut off and the line seems pretty solid. After I get the line off does that metal tube slide out? I dont want to hurt anything.

 

You need to loosen the clamps that hold the injector line to the head. That will allow you enough slack in the lines to move the it back so you can inspect it.

That leaky line can give you hard starts, especially if more than one leak. While checking the taper for a ridge check the female end for pitting / corrosion / ridging.

I had 5 of those babies leaking, gotta be careful to not overtighten. Their torque spec is 28 or 33 ft/lbs, I believe.

 

This reply from torque is right on the money. I was in the big horn basin in Wyoming with limited parts supply options. I had a leaky line that had coated the underside of the truck with diesel fuel. I wanted to keep moving so I tried the emery paper on the end of the fuel line. After some experimenting I got it to shut the leak down. Great advice! How come torque was banned?

Yes, its an old thread, but it saved me this time and I wanted to, I guess say thanks, for the great advice. If you get a leaky injector line this advice from torque is golden. This forum is sure a great thing to have available.
