Leaf Springs - getting tired?

Hey guys,

My rig just hit 220K miles and runs like a champ. However, I have been chasing a wobble (shimmy) for a few years without elimination (see front end parts in signature) and have found some new information.

1. Wobble happens much worse during up hill pulls (no load) and quick acceleration. I have been researching "Axle Wrap" which potentialy could be changing the geometry. ** I ordered traction bars to eliminate wrap (even if it is minor) ** I'll inform in a week.

2. Looking at my rear leaf springs they look like they have flattened out some at the axle junction. Is it likely that the springs could have flattened out?

My theory is that the springs don't have enough arch or rigidity to keep the rear end quiet. Causing the rear axle to float or act like a whip.

PS....I put new Rancho RS900XL adjustable shocks on and they helped but didn't eliminate.

Your thoughts and input..........

It's possible. Best way to check springs is look at the shackle and see how far past vertical they are. If they are pointing back real bad, chances are the spring is shot.

just had my rear springs re-arched on my 1 ton, cost me about $100, replace the bushings while you're at it
