KDP a problem ???
These are good questions, Vic.
I e-mailed Cummins with similar ones about 2 years ago. The response was:
".......if you are concerned about the pin falling out, have your Dodge dealer inspect it......."
Its apparent that even Cummins does not know which cases are on which engines. I provided them with the engine serial number, engine CPL number, and the case part number, as it is listed in my engine parts breakdown manual.
It looks like they just assembled the engines with whatever cases they had on hand at the time, until all of the old cases were used up.
The only way to determine which case you have is to remove the gear case cover.

Reply from Cummins....
Hi Guys:
I live near Milwaukee Wi. and called the local Cummins Dealership. Asked them when I could get in to get the KDP fixed. There was a long pause on the phone... the reply was, "Let me get back to you, give me your number"
Late the next day they called back and said, "It will cost you $500 to get it fixed" They also said they have seen only one that needed to be fixed in 5 years!
My take on it....
I cannot deny that people write about this all the time! It needs it's own forum!
I plan on fixing it on my own but I will have to wait until the weather warms up.
Thanks
Steve

Building up the engine for my truck yesterday, I used a gearcase from a 2000, and it was the old style so tabbed it. Looks like some do and some don't have the updated case. It will be interesting to see if my '99 case has the problem with the pin. It will be out tomorrow or the next day depending ont he weather. While I have this stuff apart I have half a mind to bend up some steel for a jig. Course I only have half a mind anyhow..
