Trust me, the last thing you want is an injector failure. They usually mean burnt pistons and at least a partial engine rebuild.
If you want new injectors, get them. But don't wish for a failure as justification!

I was told by a very knowledgeable person that you should upgrade to bigger injectors every so often just to be safe. I don't know if it's true or not but I'm not taking any chances.

Well I was just wondering. I was thinking the other day I hadn't really ever heard to many stories about them going bad. Fords on the other hand, thats a somewhat pretty common problem. We had some CAT injectors rebuilt this past week, and one was too far gone, had to be replaced.

I think the 200,000 mile answer is close to accurate, from what I have read & heard. I do believe that they don't work perfectly......until they suddenly fail. Some injector components have shown heavy wear as quickly as 50,000-75,000 miles, potentially leaking and reducing efficiency.
This is not first hand info...just repeating what a testing/rebuilding shop in Dallas told/showed me.

I asumed that they would probably need to be replace a couple times during it expected life. I am thinking about getting a new set sometime, in the near future. njoverkill, did you notice much of a difference after the 275's? As far as power and fuel economy? Beast2B, are you I'll put them in as soon as you can get them here, as long as you're buying.

I just had to put a new head in my truck, I took the injectors that were in it to the shop and had them pop tested. They told me they were on the week side, so I bought the 275. During this job I also got the gauges in. I then took off on a cross country trip, and the truck did just fine-low egr numbers etc. I think if I were to change the injectors again, which I just might, I would go to a bigger one-of course I have a couple more things to do before I change them again........I kinda miss the smoke that the POD's produced on my 93

Injectors will wear out over time and give you more smoke, less mileage and harder starts with no power gains. Even if they don't fail completely (burning up pistons etc) it's good to do a pop off pressure test and look at the spray pattern. Good injectors are crucial for good economy.
My stockers were about gone (low pressure, ugly spray pattern) after about 110 000 kms.

Alpine Ram, so you have a CTD in thelps ??? That's great. What the european think about this rig ?
It's got to be huge compared to their smaller diesels....
Funny thing, just sold my '98 Chevy 6.5TD crew cab to a guy in Germany, he bought it and had it shipped there....
