Injector Pump Failure
Injector Pump Failure
76000 miles and I started having problems with no throttle response. Carried it to a local Dodge Dealer. Computer showed bad injection pump, but all they done was changed the fuel filter and trouble shot. Charged $200. On the way home, had the same problem again. Carried it to a different Dodge Dealer and within 3 hours, called me back and informed me that the injection pump was bad and that it was covered under warranty. He also called back and ask about changing the fuel filter(not under warranty) to make sure no trash would get in the new pump. Will carry back to East Carolina Dodge with any more problems. I am going back to the first Dodge dealer and see if I can get a refund on the work that they done. Looks like they did not know what they were doing and I don't think I should pay for it.
Sounds like they were just tryin to fix ya up till the warranty ran out. I would try to go back to the first one and see if you can get a refund, if not I would take it as a lesson learned and go back to the second place to have the injection pump put in. If the first place is gonna cover up the failing injection pump, who knows what they might do to get a quick fix when you throw the truck in the shop at their place.
The first dealer was likely following proceedures. I have had this happen a few times myself. A weak lift pump or clogged fuel filter will reduce flow to the injection pump which will cause the same trouble code to be set as dead injection pump. You must first correct the fuel supply problem. Then if the code doesn't come back, you have to assume it fixed the problem. Depending on how bad and how long the supply problem has existed, you may have already caused damage to the injection pump causing it to fail down the road.
It's not that they were trying to scam you, they just followed order of operations. If they would have replaced the injection pump to begin with, the truck could have eaten the new one as well, then you would still be mad that they didn't fix the problem first time.
