There is a real good chance that the VP-44 is no good. Most likely you lift pump is dead as well. Do you have a fp guage? If not, you need to check fuel pressure. Throw out your other guages and get a fuel pressure guage....far more important than the others on a 24V.

I have recently used bio-diesel and my VP44 is like a new pump. It has had issues for several months with that code. I have since driven it 6,000 miles.
Try this if you can't find a good soy-diesel, double dose it with fuel lubes to see if it helps. I suspect something sticking or gauled up.
I wonder how many VP's can be saved?

I first got the 0216 code on my 99 in early June. I replaced the lift pump per the dealer service dept. Started reading around on here and TDR before I had them replace the VP44. I made it through summer and into the middle of Spetember before the pump finally died. I limped home and replaced the pump myself that week. Thankfully the truck displayed sysmpoms of a slow death and I had the VP44 on order. It was delivered the same week it died. My fuel pressure gage arrived later that week, too.

I don't think we'll be saving any VP44s by using extra lube. Maybe slow down the death. I think one you get the 0216 code, the pump is shot. Mine probably went close to 5000 miles that summer before it died. I pushed it till its last cough. I was lucky I was close to home and not stranded somewhere.

Get a fuel pressure gage installed to check your lift pump output. I replaced another lift pump 6 months later.

What kind of number should i be looking to get for my fuel pressure?

Who has the best guaga to get?

What should the guage have for numbers 0 to 30?

I know what the lift pump is but what is VP-44??

Thanks
Dan

Chances are that your injection pump has the brass sleeve and steel advance piston
in the bottom of the housing. The brass wears to the point that the piston can not make the correct timing position and sets a code.
bottom line rebuild or replace the pump.

I've had that same code for 15,000+ miles. I got it after installing my TST box.
