Ignition Fuse Pops
Ignition Fuse Pops
The other morning it was a slow crank to get started like a low battery but it started. I went to Home Depot about 15 minutes of city driving and turned it off. When I came back outside to start it it was a dead key. All my dash lights where on and it showed good voltage on the volt meter. I checked my fuses and found the ingition fuse under the hood poped. Went and got some replacements and continued it to pop more. I cleaned the all the battery terminals and it still poped fuses. I removed a turbo timer thinking it was the problem and searched for grounded wires and did not find anything. When the fuse blows its only when I move the ket to the start position, so that tells me it might have something to do with the starter. I was stranded so I made a jumper out of wire and juped the poles where the fuse would go and got in and it fired right up with no ill effects. I only turn the key for no more than a second so I figured it would not burn anything up that fast and it has proven true so far with about 10 cranks on it since. I am very incomfortable with the jumper and would like to resolve.
Could it be the starter contacts? It starts up just fine and turns over fast without any weird noises.
