Idle too high

Just came in from a 2 hour trip and noticed that my idle was stuck at 1100 rpm. The idle remained high as I stopped at various intersections. Got home and turned off the engine, waited 30 seconds, re-started, and the idle dropped down to 800 rps (where it usually is). No error codes and it has never done this before. Truck is a 2002 with 40,000 miles on it. What is up??

Mine was doing that last week, then this week it threw a low apps voltage code when it was stumbling with light pedal at about 1400 ish rpm, Could be a early sign the apps is on the weay out, or at least that is where I am going with it.

MY '01.5 always idles at 850 or so. It is my understanding that's what is programmed into the ECM. Have you tried the APPS reset procedure?

This high idle was experienced just after I drove through a driving snow/rain storm. I have driven the truck for over an hour today and so far no problems. Could this high idle just have been a fluke or perhaps weather related????

Very well could have been moisture related, APPS contacts might have gotten wet.

APPS=Accellerator Pedal Position Sensor, fly-by-wire system in our trucks.

Once it's wet, it could easily get corroded, so you might want to check the connections, and perhaps waterproof them.

I dont know if all the 5 speed trucks are the same but, if I slow down for a stop light or something my truck will idle at about 1100 rpm until I get below 5 mph or so and then it will drop down to 850. If yours is the same way, I would say it is either the apps or a speed sensor that is corroded or has a loose connection. Just my .02
