Question Hydrolic fluid in transmission

i have read the articles on the 47re transmissions and my question is would it be worth the hassle to change from ATF to hydrolic fluid in my transmission just wanted some input on this and to hear if anybody has done it themselves

Sure, if the stuff you use has close to the same thermal stability, friction modification, correct anti-wear additive for the gears and bearings and about 0.01% anti-foamants (siloxanes) as specified in the Chrysler 7176E spec for the ATF+ fluid and maybe some red dye for leak identification, it should work great!

My question to you would be why? Why not use the correct transmission fluid?

i dunno just was talking to my buddy about it and he was in the process of changing his over to hydrolic fluid. an automatic tranny is basically a hydro pump just few different parts here and there i was just wondering if it would have a longer service life than regular ATF and help keep the temps down.

ATF is engineered for your trans....hydraulic fluid is not

I would let your buddy do it, watch how it does, access the cost advantage, and then leave yours like it was designed. ATF fluid isn't the issue with autos, abuse and lack of maintenance is.

I've heard of John Deere Hytrans used in automatics. A buddy of mine uses it in his 8 second vette in a glide. Doesn't burn as bad as regular tranny fluid. I've been wanting to try it just haven't got around to it. They make two different weights of it. The lighter is a little heavier than regular fluid.
