huge oil leak need help
Hey guys read about vacuum pump leaks and not sure if my leak is via there or not I found a hole were the pump mounts in and it's coverd and oil and dripping down not sure if thst seal may be the issue or what, hope you guys can help soon as my 2000 cummins is very new to me and important and I really don't want it to be a engine problem. So far she hasn't lost to much oil but steering works for the most part while ac is a little strange cruise works fine hope yall can help. Referring to the hole iam able to stick my finger in it and oil covers it not sure if a bolt is spose to be in there as I can't feel any threads or if this is a sign the seal is going out thanks in advance
Can you get us a picture?
Mounting the Vacuum pump is a bolt above and below the pump, if those 2 bolts are there and another hole is present, something punched the cover, perhaps a KDP ( Killer Dowel Pin )

Sadly I can not get a picture right now due to I'm in cali and my truck is in nc and I won't be back there for about a month the hole seams to be like it's ment to be there and from Google I have seen a few with the same hole in the pictures on Google so I'm not sure
Currently cause of the fact I was able to stick my finger in quite a was and felt like the hole was spose to be there I belive the bolt from the vac pump backed out and fell off due to ac and power steering work but iam losing oil and nothing else seams to be effected. If the bolt is missing would it cause a oil leak like this
Yes it will, and likely a surprisingly large amount of oil........ Like I said, there is 1 bolt above the vacuum pump, and 1 below holding it on to the face of the timing cover, if you don't have both, get one.......
