How much does a NV4500 weigh?

I estimate about 65,000 mi on the existing clutch & have documentation that it was changed at 85,000 by the PO. Shifts are becoming a little notchy & from 2-3 will grind if I try to shift fast. I'm considering a clutch &/or syncros but would be doing the R&R in the gravel with only a jack to hold the trans.

1. is the tranny easy to pull with truck on the ground or jack stands?

2. are syncros likely going at 150K?

Any other comments?

It helps if the Jack can roll. To get trans lined up for removal/install.
I'd do it on pavement at least. Plus get the truck as HIGH as possible.

On the ground should be OK, jack stands not necessary.

Put a 3/4 piece of plywood over the gravel so the floor jack will roll on it.(the little $25.00 ChinaCrap floor jacks not likely to cut it)

Pull the tranny and transfercase as a unit.

The toughest part is balancing the unit on the floor jack and securing it so it doesn't roll off the jack. An assistant would be advisable.

I install the bellhousing to the unit before going back in. Just a personal preference, but it is easier to line up by viewing that it is in the same plane as the engine. (plus you don't have to worry about the throw-out bearing and shiftfork)
