hot differential
I have an '01 2500 with dana 80, 4:10, limited slip, After an hour on the freeway unloaded, I was under the truck changing shocks and noticed the input side of the diff. was still VERY hot. The truck had been sitting for 45 minutes already. Exhaust was already cool to the touch but couldn't leave my hand on the diff. Checked the oil, level is ok but the oil looks kinda thin. Should this cause me worry?

Diffs do make a bunch of heat, and that 80 is a big hunk of cast iron so it will take a long time to cool down. It's normal, the gear lube is thin becaue it's hot.

HOT DIFF!
cujo,
We see this a lot especially in the Ford's they actually burn the paint off of the stamped cover housing if they are used to do much towing!
We sell a lot of the PML cast aluminum covers, they increase the fluid capacity and drop the fluid temps considerably, plus they look really nice.
