Help- How to remove shifter from NV4500
It looks like there might be pin that is sealed into the shift tower???? remove sealant????? drive pin out???? not the same as a getrag, need to get it out NOW. thanx for any help. crossy

If you look at it closely, there is a retainer that twists counter-clockwise and pops up.
It's similar to how the old NP435 stick is retained in.
Look closer at it and you can make out that the hole is oval.
There is a tool that fits down the hole, around the shift stub.
All I have ever done is take 2 screwdrivers on opposing "corners" of this opening and both push down and twist counterclockwise and the retainer pops out.
It's under spring pressure, so watch what you're doing.
Just done one yesterday when I was pulling an NV4500 from a '95 gasser.

The shifter stub should be held in with that clip ring like he says. If you are removing the shifter handle, that part slides down onto the shifter stub with a friction fit. You should be able to take it out stub and handle together though if you remove the clip.
You can see if it is there by pressing in around the stub, if it springs back up, it is still in there.

Look straight down into the shift tower and that piece of tin with the oval opening IS the ring.
See the oval hole in this pic?
That's the retainer. The whole assembly looks similar to this when removed:

the picture was the ticket. I was turning the the other smaller piece with a little slot in it. the part I needed to turn is more like a retaining CUP. ThAnk YOU to ALL for the help. !!!!!!!!!!!
