heater/AC air flow

My 2001 heater/AC fan is not passing much air thru the vents, all I can guess is that the cores are full of dirt.

Is there an easy way to clean them? Take the fan motor out and stick a vacuum in the hole maybe?

I removed the fan motor and had some access to the heater core, I needed a mirror to get a look at the heater core. I bent a toothbrush with some heat and was able to get most of the core clean.

I also used a spray bottle with a little soap in it and then finished with straight water, there is a drain hole to the outside so no worry about it running onto carpet.

It's not much fun but much better than the alternative, which is to remove the dash/core.

Thanks for the reply and the good tips. Great to get info from someone who also had to clean out the heater box.
I probably should have addressed cleaning the box out when I replaced the dash.
