heat indication

after owning the rig for almost 4yrs i noticed that all the spacers on the exaust manifold are colored by heat except number 1, they still look new. is it possible that i've only been using 5 holes and this is why everyone else seems to get better mileage? this doesn't look right to me.
thanks for any opinions.

You worry to much. The discoloration differences could be from many reasons. If you were running on 5 holes you would surely know about it.

i don't worry at all. i can see. if all the components on an exhaust manifold are basically the same color except for those on one particular cylinder then any knowledgable person would be led to the conclusion that somethiing might be amiss. i would appreciate response from others with the 02 HO and perhaps similar conditions of color on the #1 cylinder exhaust manifold spacers. i can provide images of said components if needed. thanks to all in advance.

I'd imagine the number one spacers would be the least discoloured due to getting the most cool air. All the others would heat up more due to the airflow over them has passed over the manifold and is significantly hotter. Best thing to do would be to get an infrared thermometer and see what the temp differences are, instead of just guessing.

thanks for the reply. i'll post some images so the group can see what i'm describing. it sure looks like #1 is running very cold to me. i've been working on engines for about 38 years and color always played an important roll in assessing tune-up. i'll try to get something you can look at by tomorrow. thanks
