Hey guys im having some problems with my 1999 ram 2500....when i start the truck it will idle and randomly sputter sometimes and rev up....the wierd part about it is the tachometer stays at 0 and doesent move and when the motor revs up it shoots up but i think its off in rpms like the needle is moving randomly.....When i plugged in the obd reader it said there were no codes but now the check engine light is on....Any information will help

u need to change your crank sensor.

 

Agree. Mine did the same thing, but it's an 01' with cam sensor.

 

My truck lost all gauges except for the tach yesterday. After reading hundreds of posts all over the net today, it seems like I need a new crank sensor. The best post provided good trouble shooting and diag info here:https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...t-t186943.html
